Creating DOODLES

Ok, so I thought I could lay down the audio tracks atop my animations by midnight last night and get a big ol' fashioned early night of sleep... the kind I really actually have come to love a lot (the kind that has me going to sleep by eleven at the latest - mm, personal information indeed).

I was wrong to assume that that would happen.

But I can actually say that NOW I have all of the completed animations - visual AND audio together like a sweet mix of a cheese and gherkin sandwich - in their appropriate files on the computer.

Hooray again.

All animations are now finished.

Quite a journey... especially seeing the whole process was fairly new to me at the beginning of this escapade.

For the distant future, I'm looking forward to improving my animation skills.
For now, I'm super glad I don't have to do anymore animating for the show.

Two days to go... some final polishing up of my songs and bring it on.

I'm already beyond exhaustion but I reckon that'll be fixed after an early night to sleep tonight (I know - VERY rock and roll).

Studio A is pumping!

The first animation from Studio A is in the can. Completed after just learning how to create fade outs in Flash (thank you to Studio B, youtube and a little old tweaking of the brain muscles).

Now that I have realised I am going to bed for a few hours sleep, I feel uber tired. :)

Gotta complete animation two from Studio A tomorrow, I mean, later today.

(Nearly) Two of my animations in the bag. Animation two is coming along well, I spent close to 7 hours STRAIGHT working on it yesterday. And the results really do speak for themselves...I am pasty, emotionally fragile and my eyes hurt.

I for one, am feeling very exciting about how the show is shaping up. The festival has kicked off now, so there's lots to see and do, but we are on top of the workload.

Rockin'.

Animation one in the can. But no rest for the totally wicked, so it's back to STUDIO B for the next one.

Today I drew a new Zak, Two New Baggi's (What is the plural of Baggi?), some pretty girls, some boys, a scientist, a robot and a cute girl in a frog suit. Tomorrow I start putting them all together.

Why you ask...you'll have to come see the show to find out! TWO WEEKS TO GO!!!

Na-noo Na-noo Earthlings!

Well it's been a long, long couple of days sitting in front the computer in Studio B (Otherwise known as The Poor Man's Studio A) and there's still much to do, but I'm happy to report that it's all going quite well. After completely re-teaching myself how to use Flash (with some help from Shak and Tim, cheers kids), hours of doodling, scanning (cheers Baggy), Re-doodling, Photo-editing and hours upon hours animating...I have got about 2 minutes of footage! YAY! ...Yay? Highlights so far include Lil' Baggas blinking, error messages and Lil' Zack falling out a tree.

So, I'm about 83% finished my first (of three) animations for the show.

Baggas and I have had some sweet idea's from a few new bits we want to add inot the show...including a song and he concept of re-programming your saddness bot.

ROCK.

Baggas and I spent the first half of today at Supernova, where she was doing some doodling and I was walking around enbracing my inner (and outter) geek. Here's Some Pics...(there's more on my Facebook if you're interested)

Hey kids,

Zackster here. I have finally arrived in Melbourne town! We're both busy working on the animations for the show at the moment. Which has been fun because in addition to working within a fairly tight timeframe, we've also had the fun of having to be re-learning how to use Flash as we do iy. Woot! (thanks to Tim for tech support btw).

So here's a little glimpse into our world right now as well a few sneek peeks into some of my latest doodles for the show.

Wow! It's been a month or so since the last post. That's quite a long time. Don't worry, we haven't done anything so you haven't missed much.

Of course, I'm joking. Zack and I have been working on the pre-production and marketing for the show, sending images and notes of "wicked" and "cool" to each other across the net to make decisions as a team. It's really nice and exciting to be collaborating on producing a show - I recommend it.

And I've decided to show a sneek peek from behind the scenes of the making of the show - these peeps dropped by last night to help with the animation. They're great kids, Zak and Buggi. And their legs look mighty tasty...

Zack and I had a production meeting last week, enabled by the wonderful, old-fashioned communication device, the telephone.
There are several tasks to complete as we head towards the festival season. Right now, we're working on some of the design aspects for the animations, and hopefully we will post glimpses of these fruits in the near future.

For now, here's a look at a sketch that was doodled during an information session for the festival that I attended last year.
I WAS listening attentively, believe me. I find a more enjoyable focus when drawing at the same time. And yep, this kind of behaviour occurred during lectures at university as well.

How to pick up chicks...

Hey kids,

Although, the no comedy comedy fundrasier was a fairly low-key affair, I was quite happy with how it went. I must admit that I cheated a bit and debuted a new "comedy" song and was quite happy with the responce, so hopefully it will make into DOODLES.

I've been room-sitting for my (other) friend Michelle this past month and I really don't want to leave this room. In addition to really liking my housemates, this room seems to be conducive (sp?) to me writing some decent new songs...perhaps it doesn't really matter where I am, I dunno...it could just be a creative period...but I've written the bulk of the few "serious: tunes I've been working in there as well as (and probably more importantly) the two NEW COMEDY SONGS! Yay! I like them both too (normally after a week, songs either still make the cut of are deemed that I just liked them at the time...it's not you...it's me Mr. song...I'm sorry...it's just not working out....the chord progression is all wrong and I can't even remember how your basic melody goes...).

The point it these two new songs (Next Big Thing and Moving On*) will hopefully make it into the show and will make up a decent percentage of my solo contribution to DOODLES.

Anyway, BAGGAS is only in town for a little longer, so we better get crackin'...

Hey kids.

So I've been trying to write some new songs for DOODLES. So far I have half a break-up song, a song about dancing with a girl at a Silent Disco and a cute song about life for my little baby Godson (who incedently is the coolest one year old ever). All three, not very funny.

I'm writing "serious" (or, at least, not strictly "comedy") song for the first time in a while. And while this isn't helpful to Baggas and I, it has been exciting and refreshing to have some non-satircial musical output of late. I do however, have some concepts for new "ha-ha that's funny" songs...so don't panic (because I'm sure you were).

Or maybe I'll take the songs that I've written and add in some dick jokes.

BAGGAS and I have our "NON COMEDY COMEDY FUNDRAISER"this week while she's in town, so maybe you'll get to hear some of my "serious"songs there. Or maybe not.

Either way looks out for some blogs as Baggas and I have the luxury of being able to work on our show while in the same state, at least for a few weeks.

And here is the raw scanned sketch that I drew for the show image (which you can see to the right). I know! I can't believe that the image was composed either! I thought it was a real photo of a real setting, with Zack and me on some mega-sized, lined blue paper!

I feel the kind of tired today that I felt when I was performing during the last festival. It's actually quite nice. Perhaps a bittersweet taster of the joyous exhaustion that comes with putting on an independent show. To those who are preparing a show of their own for next year's festival, good stead to you! We shall toil excitedly for the funny fruits we each will bring to town in April.

Hey readers,

This is my first "Blog"so be gentle with me.

Zack here. Today was the day. The day where all good comedians (who have left everything to the last minute) finalised their Melbourne Comedy Festival Rego. aaaaand it's done'! We're all sorted! Now all we need to do make this show, but I have a feeling it's going to be amazing.

Looking forward to working with the lovely Baggas and seeing our unique styles of "comedy" mesh together into DOODLES, which I hope will be amazing. Having done so much solo work the last fews, makes me very excited to be working on a duo show.

Registration for the 2009 Melbourne International Comedy Festival closes today and so begins the journey of "Creating Doodles".

This blog will follow behind the scenes as Zack Adams and Baggas create and produce a new work entitled "Zack Adams and Baggas have DOODLES". Follow their thoughts, sketches, musings, non-tiffs, fun, excitement, teasers, news and challenging moments as they prepare to perform a brand new, spanking comedy show at next year's festival.

Opening night for DOODLES will be Tuesday 14 April, 2009, at the Tuxedo Cat in the Nicholas Building, Melbourne.

More to come.

We're excited!!!

Oh, and did we mention that the show will feature animation and guitar-driven music??
